Deirdre Jacob mystery remains unsolved as parents think 'little clue' could crack case 25 years on

The heartbroken parents of murdered student Deirdre Jacob – who vanished from outside her house in 1998 - have issued another plea for information ahead of the 25th anniversary of her disappearance.

The last reported sighting of Deirdre was by a driver and his daughter, who saw Deirdre cross the road near her home and step inside her garden gate. In October of that year, the investigation team, run by Superintendent Martin Walker and Chief Supt Brian Sutton, from Kildare Garda Station - along with the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s cold case unit and the Serious Crime Review Team - were zooming in on notorious convicted rapist and attempted murderer, Larry Murphy, from Baltinglass, Co Wicklow, as the chief suspect.

The search followed reports from a witness that they saw a car with an open boot in the area, almost 18km from Newbridge, on the night Deirdre vanished.
