Customers at Irish bar in Rome sing ‘Celtic Symphony’ at Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis in recent days before he became Rangers manager.
Davis, who hasn't yet retired from football and remains the Northern Ireland captain, replaced Michael Beale as Rangers' caretaker manager in recent days.Rangers are currently in third place in the SPL and, after a disappointing start to the season, Davis said earlier this week that he is excited to get to work with the team.
The 38-year-old is still on the books as a player at Rangers but hasn't played in months due to a serious knee injury."I feel very honoured," said Davis. The call came out of the blue, I certainly wasn’t expecting it. I would just like to try and repay the trust the club have shown in putting me in this position."I believe in the group that we’ve got.
Davis' national team manager Michael O'Neill has said that balancing a player/manager role with an international career is impossible."You can't be a player/manager at Rangers. I'll chat with him over the international break.Read next:
