After Facebook's parent announced global layoffs in March, the minister sent a letter to Nick Clegg, head of global affairs, supporting the firm's future plans in Ireland

Simon Coveney, the Minister for Enterprise, failed to raise any concerns about job cuts at Meta a day after the tech giant announced mass global layoffs.

Correspondence released under freedom of information show that despite the well-publicised cuts, Coveney did not inquire as to the impact these would have on staff working in Ireland, more than 500 of whom have since been affected. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive, announced on March 14 that restructuring and layoffs in the firm’s tech groups would take place in late April, with further job cuts in its business groups to come in late May.
