Donegal singer Ailish McBride is a rising star in the world of country music - she chats to RSVP Country about not knowing she could sing, her grandfather’s early support and the devastating explosion in her hometown of Creeslough

Country singer Ailish McBride grew up on a farm in the small town of Creeslough in Donegal and is fast becoming a rising star on the Irish music scene. She also works as a veterinary nurse and always had a huge love for animals.

Ailish’s grandfather became very persistent that she should pursue a career in music. “He took me to a recording studio in Cumbria where I recorded a four track EP.” Her first album, Home to Donegal, was recorded in Gweedore. “It all stemmed from something so small, no one knew I could sing, to be honest I didn’t know myself either. If it wasn’t for my Granda it wouldn’t have happened.”

She also used to present her own TV show on Spotlight TV called Ailish’s Country Mix , but the show ended due to Covid. Creeslough has since experienced darker days. A terrible explosion at a service station back in October 2022 claimed ten lives. “The whole community is still so still. The first few weeks after it happened, it was so silent, it was such an eerie feeling. I don’t think it will ever be the same. It was just a horrible disaster,” Ailish says.
