Councillor for Kimmage-Rathmines Carolyn Moore wants on-the-spot fines issued for perpetrators, and said that a trial for such a system is in the works.
A Green Party councillor has called for the deployment of wardens on the streets of Dublin with the power to issue members of the public with fines for illegal parking, littering and dog fouling.
"We had previously had a motion agreed at the same [Dublin City Council] Transport Committee, where we would look at trialling this role - one on the northside and one on the southside."We're just trying to push that along now." Cllr Moore also pointed out the reality of dog fouling, a consistently unpunished act seen in other councils around Ireland in recent years, as well as the need for visible enforcement.
"Likewise with litter; you'll see all the signs warning you that you'll be fined €75 if you litter - but nobody's walking around thinking there's a reasonable chance that they're going to encounter a litter warden."
