Childcare providers and those who work in the sector gathered outside Leinster House on Tuesday to protest the Core Funding and ECCE funding models
Childcare facility owners have said they cannot afford to pay their own wages, meet rising rent and electricity costs and are at risk of having to close down if the Government does not increase funding.
READ MORE: Micheal Martin warns of 'tough' budget amid inflation, population and health spending concerns There are also calls to increase the Early Childhood Care and Education scheme, which pays a flat rate of €69 per child per week. She explained: "My overheads have shot up. My electricity bill has doubled. Everything from groceries to car insurance to business insurance, everything has shot up.
"That is that parents get certainty around their fees and are actually able to enjoy the fee decrease that comes from the additional [funding]."
