Alan soon realised the more unfortunate symptoms of his food poisoning were slightly different to his grief, while filming an Agatha Christie documentary dressed as Poirot. “It was touch and go,” he recalls. “I was crying.” Chatting to Seann Walsh and Jack Dee on their Oh My Dog! podcast, he added: “I am desperate to get a dog, my life is empty. It breaks my heart.”
